With just days remaining for CAO students to make their final choices, IT Tralee will host an information evening highlighting the range of study choices and career opportunities available to students looking to pursue studies in Civil Engineering and Construction Management at the Institute.
A recent report from the Construction Federation of Ireland showed that over 10,000 new workers joined the construction industry in 2018, with similar growth expected in 2019.
New for entry September 2019, IT Tralee has re-launched a BSc in Construction Management in response to industry demand for professional construction managers. The course is broad based which ensures that graduates have the flexibility to work in many different environments. Graduates become competent in management, construction technology, building services, quantity surveying, surveying, design, professional practice and IT including 2D/3D CAD and BIM.
‘Construction management graduates are highly sought after in Ireland and there is currently a shortage of suitably qualified construction managers.’ said Prof. Joseph Walsh, Head of School of STEM at IT Tralee. ‘Employment opportunities exist not only with contractors but also with consultants, manufacturers & suppliers of products related to the construction sector and self-employed. People with a proven track record can demand high salaries and can reach senior positions quickly,’ he added.
IT Tralee also offers programmes in Civil and Environmental Engineering, an area that has seen a soar in demand since the recovery of the construction industry. Engineers Ireland has predicted that over 6,000 new jobs will be created in the engineering sector in Ireland in 2019. With an ongoing shortage of engineers with the right skills across the country, young people are being urged to consider a career in engineering and the fantastic and expanding opportunities that exist in the sector.
An information evening for students interested in pursuing studies in Civil Engineering or Construction Management for entry September 2019 at IT Tralee will take place at the Kerry Sports Academy, North Campus on Thursday June 27th from 6pm.
