Fourth year BSc in Health and Leisure Studies students are busy preparing for their upcoming charity event, ’The Fitness Face Off’, taking place at John Mitchel's Sport Complex on Sunday 4th December.
“We are looking for 16 teams of 4 (2 males, 2 females) from local gyms and sports clubs in the Tralee area to compete against each other in a series of fun events, that will challenge their physical and psychological skills”, says David Doyle one of the organisers from the BSc in Health and Leisure Studies (Wellness) originally from Wicklow.
The cost of entry is €100 per team and all proceeds go to Special Olympics Ireland towards the World Games taking place in Austria from the 14th-25th March 2017.
According to Alan Duggan, BSc in Health and Leisure Studies (Fitness Professional) from Tralee you don't have to be super fit to take part, it's all just a bit of fun! “Plus qualified massage therapists will be on hand to provide free post event massages and participants will receive advice on their personal health goals from 26 qualified exercise professionals”.
“This event is part of the students’ 'Special Event Management' module and has really given students wonderful experience and insights as to the organisational skills needed to run such an event. The Health and Leisure Department is very impressed by the students work to date and the event promises to be a fun day for all while promoting the positive benefits of fitness”, says Health & Leisure Lecturer Trevor Dunne.
